Datacenter rules
From Wikitech
This document will attempt to outline some of the more basic rules that need to be followed in our datacenter installations.
- Authorized personnel only; You should not bring any unauthorized personnel into the datacenter. Any visitors need to be cleared with the Operations Manager as well as the individual datacenter sites.
- Currently site visits to Tampa by an Oracle Field Engineer do not need prior authorization, but must remain escorted the entire duration of their visit.
- Any authorized visitors must be escorted at all times during their visit once they are past the first security checkpoint. (First door with restricted access.)
- No food or drink on the datacenter floor.
- sdtpa has a small exception to this in that you have to carry any food or drink across the datacenter floor (but not into our cage) to get it over by Miguel's office, where you are allowed to have them. Under no exceptions should food or drink be carried into the cage proper.
- No photography is allowed in the datacenters without prior authorization from both the Wikimedia Operations Manager and the datacenter site in question.
- All the datacenters have policies on this. It is why our cameras are fixed installation, and cannot pan and tilt.
- All shipments out of the datacenter must be approved.
- If its a vendor hardware issue, its pre-approved.
- If the item is dispatched to ship via an RT ticket by either Mark Bergsma or Rob Halsell, it is pre-approved.
- Decommissioned server shipments are pre-approved only once Mark or Rob have signed off on the RT ticket.
